6 Ways to Make Your Life More Interesting and Exciting

Even with plenty of ways to entertain ourselves in our modern world, life can sometimes lack excitement and get monotonous when we are stuck in our usual routines.

But there are a few things you can do to break out of the monotony and bring more excitement to your life. Here are six ways to do just that.

Find a Pen Pal

Many years ago, when I read an article in Readers Digest about pen pals, I was curious and wondered what it would be like to have pen pal of my own from a different part of the world.

I finally found out last year when I started regularly corresponding with someone from the U.S who found me through my blog.

Exchanging emails with my virtual pen pals has been an exciting and mind-expanding experience. (A few months ago, I also gained another pen pal from India)

Unlike instant messaging, when you write a letter there is usually a lot more thought that goes into it, and you get to learn about so many things during these exchanges.

Learn a musical instrument

Something that has bought me a lot of joy and excitement has been learning to play the guitar.

I would play the guitar last thing at night and first thing in the morning when I was learning to play it. It would give me something to look forward to when I got home.

Thanks to some fantastic lessons on YouTube and the internet there are plenty of musical instruments you can learn to play absolutely free.

To learn to play the guitar, I’d recommend Justin Guitar, which is how I learned to play. His beginner’s course is a great place to start.

Some instruments can be a little challenging to learn, and it can take a while before you can play them decently, especially if you are hard-pressed to find the time.

Instruments like Harmonica and Ukulele sound amazing and are easy to learn. They are also relatively cheap compared to other instruments.

Travel

Travelling is one of the best ways to bring more excitement to your life.

Sometimes it can be hard to travel with friends/family due to conflicting schedules, but you shouldn’t use that as an excuse to stop yourself from travelling.

As long-time readers of my blog would know, solo travelling is something I can’t recommend highly enough.

Some of the most interesting people I've met and the most stimulating conversations I've had have been in the backpacker hostels I've stayed while travelling.

Travelling (especially long-term travel) will inspire you, expand your mind and enrich your life in ways far beyond than you can imagine.

Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing is an app/platform that allows travellers the opportunity to stay with locals completely free.

It’s a great platform to gain a richer and more authentic experience of the places you visit.

The app also allows you to host both local and international travellers. Meeting new people this way can give you the feel of travelling even without stepping out of the house.

If you are not interested in hosting or staying overnight, there is also the option to meet up and hang out with travellers visiting your town/city.

Take online courses

There are plenty of free and paid online courses that you can take on almost any topic. Some of the platforms which offer these courses include:

• Coursera

• Mindvalley

• Skillshare

• Khan Academy

• Google Digital Garage

Some of these courses are taught by experts in their respective fields and have received rave reviews. I’d highly recommend checking out these sites.

Join a club

One of the things that I have missed the most since the spread of the pandemic has been physically attending the weekly Tuesday Club meetings.

The Tuesday Club was started by my father along with a few of his friends back in 1994 as a platform to improve public speaking and exchange ideas.

Most members are involved in a completely different line of work, so they have unique perspectives to share.

It’s there that I have fallen in love with the art of storytelling through hearing the beautifully narrated stories by Shevlin Sebastian, a writer, who has worked in many prestigious media publications in the country.

What I love the most about these meetings is the joy of being exposed to new ideas and fascinating stories. Hearing about them makes me feel alive, inspires me and broadens my worldview.

To bring more excitement to your life, there are plenty of clubs you could join to meet like-minded people, whether that’s Toastmasters, BNI (Business Networking International), book clubs etc.
